We are taking the TGV from Nice to Paris. We then thought a few days in Bordeaux from Paris would be fun, and then Paris back to Nice. Thoughts and thanks.
Have you looked at a map? Nice is in the south east corner of France while Bordeaux is in the south west. This would be a very inefficient trip. Do you perhaps mean Burgundy?
Patty, personally, having been to Bordeaux, I would chose any of the beautiful areas in Provence. So much more accessible by train from Nice and more worthwhile.
How many days? None. The train travel you're proposing is excessive. What about Provence? Burgundy? They're between Nice and Paris.
if you have plenty time, then you can add bordeaux and drive from bordeaux out to salart to see the dordogne. Bordeaux itself is not worth the trip. train ride from paris to bordeaux is about half day. If you want to walk around town then spend the 2nd of the day, but you'll find the drive is more interesting. take the slow local road you'll pass many little beautiful villages along the river. Use Salart as base to see other sites in the region.
If you do mean Bordeaux, i would say NONE. Its just a big City. If you are serious about their wine- stay in the wine villages North/South and East of Bordeaux
I liked Bordeaux. You could spend two or three days there and also make a day trip to St Emilion.
Agree with Brian, Bordeaux is just a big city. We enjoyed staying over night in St. Emilion. Great outdoor restaurants, stores, wine tasting in square. Be sure to go on the tour of the underground church right in the heart of the square.
If you're wondering what we did in Bordeaux, we took at walking tour from the TI, enjoyed the architecture, went to a terrific morning market along the river, explored, visited a resistance museum, did a couple of wine tastings, did a day trip to St Emilion from the TI (wasn't that crazy about St Emilion - all wine, all the time). We then went to Arcachon and Cap Ferret on the Atlantic coast. Both were beautiful but it was really cold (April) and we were practically the only people in Cap Ferret. Cap Ferret has very wide sandy beaches. I love Provence but think Bordeaux is worth a visit too.
