Bordeaux as overnight from Paris?

I've rented an apartment in Paris for the month of Sept. and am considering an overnight in Bordeaux. Train trip is 3.5 hours. Has anyone done this? Any recommendations for hotels or about logistics? Merci beaucoup!

While Bordeaux was fine, and the Place de la Bourse was gorgeous, for a city overnight from Paris, I'd choose Lyon or Nancy. They're closer, and I found them more interesting. A great two day trip would be Strasbourg and Nancy, with a day in each and an overnight in either one. I wasn't as taken with Strasbourg as most other posters here, but the Museum of Alsatian Life was wonderful. And if you like Art Nouveau or beautiful glassware, Nancy is a must. Of the French big cities I've been to, Lyon is my favorite besides Paris. If you want to do an overnight in Bordeaux, the logistics are pretty easy. TGV to Bordeaux, tram from the station to the center, then (assuming you've booked a central hotel) it's mostly walking. If you're looking for a French city that's really different from Paris, take the 3+ hour TGV to Marseille. A fascinating place, and well worth a visit. Finally, I haven't been to Lille, but it's only a hour from Paris, and again, sounds quite different.

Hi, I've taken the Paris-Bordeaux TGV route, not as an overnighter but transfering to Toulouse. Trip is easy to do.

Bordeaux is worth an overnight. We took the train from Paris, it was an easy trip. Recommend staying at the Hotel Tour l'Intendance. Have dinner at La Tupina. Do a wine tasting, admire the 19th century architecture, visit the Sunday market along the river.

We enjoyed our one night before returning to Paris and stayed at Hotel Majestic. It's a business hotel with small rooms but perfectly located and a good price. We were there on a Saturday and there was alot of fun energy and good food and wine tasting. There is a great tram from the station into town although we couldn't figure it but it was easy for the return. You might ask the very helpful front desk for details. September is my favorite month in Paris. P.S. I live in San Rafael

Thanks for the helpful suggestions! We have decided to do our overnight in Lyon because 2 days in the Bordeaux area didn't seem to do it justice. Will do this another trip with a car and add some wine tasting excursions. Merci beaucoup!!
