Should I pay for the apartment by wiring money? I feel like I should be able to pay by credit card for security reasons more than anything else, but I have corresponded with 2 owners through VRBO and they both are asking me to wire money. HELP!!
I think it's up to the owner of the apartment, not the agency. We booked an apt through parisattitude.com for next May..we paid the agency fee through PayPal but the owner required us to wire him his share. From reading previous posts on this subject, a lot of owners require you to wire the money. Europeans are very accustomed to wiring money so they don't think much of it. For us, though, it's expensive.
Noel - We used VacationinParis this past June and were able to use our Amex.
I used RentParis and don't remember wiring money to apartments in France, but I did wire money in Switzerland with no difficulties. There are a great number of websites for apartments in Paris. If you don't want to wire money, look further. You might try the Slow Travel or Slow Europe websites for suggestions for rental agencies/apartments.
We booked an apartment through VRBO in January and were able to use PayPal as an option to send the deposit.
We just stayed in a great apartment near the Arc d'Triomph and payed via PayPal.
We have used Vacation In Paris and I Love Paris Apartments -- charged part up front and the rest prior to departure for trip -- never required to wire money.
Used VRBO in Belgium -- charged deposit through PayPal.
I might be concerned about being asked to wire money.
