I know I'm leaving it late but I need to get a train booked downtown to Downtown... I notice there are a number of stations to choose from.. Which one should I be clicking on ? I've read NOT to choose the * asterik as they could give you anyone of them.. Thanks...

You can certainly indicate the stations with a * and the process will default to the correct stations which are Barcelona Sants and Madrid Puerta de Atocha. No idea where your other post might be, if you need more or unfamiliar with the site, ask here.

I recently booked 3 different Renfe trips on line, without a problem, including one from Barcelona to Madrid. Choosing the "Barcelona (*)" option will give you all the options of trains leaving from all the Barcelona stations. When you get the page of all the options leaving that day, click on the Train/Route of the trip that you're interested in. That will open a separate window that gives you the breakdown of specific stops, including the specific station (for instance "Barcelona - Sants"). Check that before you select a trip to book. Don't forget to call your credit card company ahead of time and warn them about the foreign charge that will be coming through, or else it might get denied.
