Book about origins of Paris metro names

Hello,

I'm looking for a book about the origins of the Paris metro station names...I've found a handful online but they are all reviewed badly and most of the reviewers say they don't really cover the origins of the names. Anyone have any suggestions? Merci beaucoup

Thank you...the first book I saw on Amazon awhile back but it doesn't have good reviews. Though the Colleen's web site could be a good resource.

I just found these on amazon.fr so these look very promising. Crossing my fingers.

Petite histoire des stations de métro (Broché)

and

Stations de métro : D'Abbesses à Wagram (Broché)

Again, thanks a ton for the reply.

Daniel,

On the origins of the Metro station names, they are named

after historical sites (battles) eg., Danube, Wagram, Iena, Solferino, Austerlitz, Alma, Bir Hakeim,

Stalingrad, Ourcq, Liege, Alesia; famous generals, eg.,Kleber, Cambronne, Hoche, Galleni, Foch, Bolivar, Caulaincourt,Ch. de Gaulle; writers, scientists, politicians, (Louis Blanc, Voltaire, Gambetta, Mirabeau, Victor Hugo, E.Zola, Pasteur, A. Dumas, FD Roosevelt, Garibaldi, Juares,)

Some of the names are from the Napoleonic era, eg, Campo Formio, the treaty of.

I hope this helps a little in finding out the origins of the stations.

I don't know about books, but there's a website that gives the origin of every station name on a line-by-line basis.

You can use google language tools to translate the entire site - here is the page relating to Metro Line #1

I figured there must be a web site but this is for a X-mas gift so was hoping for that option. Thanks for the site though.

Hi Phil...if I only had the time. Though these books have great reviews so I'm hoping they will do the trick.
