I heard that two bombs went off along the Costa Del Sol in Malaga! How much of a risk is this going to be in November?
Who knows! There is no way to predict possible danger while traveling. I take the advice of others and try to stay alert always. And stay away from dangerous places.
I am always careful where I go after dark. I avoid crowds wherever possible. We just need to be aware that we are not as safe over there as we are here.
None.....even ETA doesn't want to kill tourists. They notify the authorites, who evacuate the area. It's almost "traditional" these days for ETA to set off a few small explosions at Spain's summer holiday areas, just to remind people they're still around....it won't happen in November.
Your greatest risk of injury will occur during the drive to and from the airport. Second greatest risk is crossing the street in Rome -- with the green light !
825 people? Over how many years?
I suspect that more than 825 people have been killed by lightning in Spain. That's not going to make me stay home and hide in my basement. The odds of getting struck by lightning in Spain are probably higher than the odds of getting killed by political violence there. So pass the sangria and gimme one of those tapas - I'll take my chances.
But by all means, if this scares you, don't go. Shorter lines for me. :)
Hi
The person who said that ETA does not aim at tourist is right and they usually warn authorities first. Their campain is targeted at the tourist industry - to scare the tourists not to go to Spain.
Secondly the 820 somthing victims are over a period of 40 years.

Im going to Torremolinos next week (35) so I'll let You know of the situation :D
BTW - "We just need to be aware that we are not as safe over there as we are here." - You are JUST as safe here as you are in the States. The risk of getting killed in the U.S. e.i. by a man with a gun in the streets are bigger than getting killed by a bomb placed by ETA.
ETA usually targets law enforcement and political figures, not tourists.
Tom, you forgot journalists, business people, judges and ordinary citizens who don't show proper support for the "cause". In any event, acts against the tourist industry are meant to scare rather than physically injure. In Malaga, the police were given ample time to evacuate the area. As FDR said, the thing to fear is fear itself -- this is particularly true with terrorist organizations. So, in this light, a vacation on the Costa de Sol can be construed as a blow against terrorism.
Welcome to the world we live in.....you're worried about Costa del Sol....and some tourists were worried about taking buses and the tube in London when they were blown up a couple of years ago , or taking trains in Madrid, or any other scenes of terrorist acts. (IRA bombs went off in London during two of my visits in the 1990's.)
If you avoid travel because of fears of terrorism, then the terrorists win. Go, enjoy yourself, and just take basic precuations.
The one thing you have going for you is that at least the ETA isn't purposely trying to hurt tourists like other groups who don't care.
