Bob's Tours- Hallstatt

My husband and I are interested in visiting the Hallstatt region in Austria and have found a tour through Bob's Tour. Just wondering if anyone has been on the tour and if they enjoyed it? We will be there in August.

Sarah, I used Bob's Special Tours last month to tour Berchtesgaden (Bavarian Mountain tour, from what I recall). The tour was great and the scenery incredible. I didn't take their Hallstatt tour, as that was going to be my next stop in Austria anyway.

When visiting Hallstatt with a tour, you will certainly be able to tour the town and probably have time for a tour the Salt Mine. I found that very interesting, and the view from Rudolphsturm and the area above town is fantastic! There's also the small Hallstatt Museum (right across from the T.I.). However, arriving there by vehicle means you won't see the incredible view of the town from the small boat dock across the lake (which is where the small rail station is located). You could perhaps rent a boat for an hour and get some photos from the lake.

If you have time to stop for lunch or "refreshments", there are lots of restaurants in the vicinity of the Marketplatz. Have a look at the lakeside patios at either Gasthof Simony or Hotel Grunner Baum for great atmosphere. The local specialty is the Reinanke trout, which was reportedly specially developed for the Empress Elisabeth (Sisi). There's a really nice Bar / Coffee house / Internet Cafe just around the corner (about 50 ft. from the entrance to Gasthof Simony), which just opened on May 10th as I recall.

If you're so inclined, the Catholic Church (slightly above town), houses an extensive Ossuary. I didn't visit, as the subject didn't interest me. Rick's book has lots of information on that and the other sights in town.

Hope you have a great time. Cheers!
