I am trying to book a tour of the BMW factory and museum in Munich for our family in late May. The email reply I got from BMW was to call them in Munich but I'm just not sure about international calling. Any suggestions?
Roger, I went to the BMW Welt and Museum in March, and for those, you just show up. I am 100% sure that both of these are closed on Mondays. The factory, I believe, has an English tour on weekdays (although you may not want to go on Monday, as the other two attractions on site are closed.)
I called last summer to book our September tour. The phone was answered in German and I just asked if they spoke English. The person I was speaking with immediately switched to English and I was able to book the dates with no trouble. The tour was fantastic and as I am an engineer and my husband is a car enthusiast this was one of our trip highlights. I just used my home phone. I can't remember the rate I was charged but it was not large enough to leave an impression in my mind. The phone call lasted less than 5 minutes. Good Luck!
Check what your rate will be to call Munich. Until recently, mine was something like $1.50 per minute. For a 5 minute call, this won't break anyone, but if your rate is higher than you'd like, you can use a service like http://www.1010987.com/ or http://www.101-6868.com/english/areacodes.html to get a lower rate on an international call. If you need help dialing, post the number, exactly as you were given it, and we can tell you how to do it.
FYI this Wednesday (May 1) is a German holiday as well as next week Thursday (May 9th) and everything will be closed.
It's much cheaper to call an overseas's landline via Skype. Even if you have no regular calling plan with them just load the minimum amount onto your Skype account and then just the German flag as country of call destination and type in the phone number. LEAVE OUT the FIRST 0. E.g. Munich's city code is 089. That's how it's dialed from within Germany. On Skype start keying in the number without the initial 0... so 89xxxxxx.
Roger-is there a BMW dealer in Lincoln or Omaha that might assist, if you don't go directly thru the company in Munich?
thank you all for your input. it has been very helpful
