BMW February Pick-Up

Picking up new car in Munich at end of February (I know, bad time of year, but only time we could do this). Limited time to work with so we thought we'd spend a few days in Munich and then go to Salzburg for a few days. Trying to decide:

1) Is it worth renting the snow tires to drive the trip or just use the public transportation as I'm guessing weather could be iffy.

2) Best things to do with 2 days in Salzburg during winter?

3) Best things to do with 2 days in Munich during winter?

Salzburg is beautiful in the winter. You can still tour the fortress and the old town, see Mozart's birthplace and museum, take a tour at the Stiegl brewery, and have some good Austrian bier at Augustiners. Public transport would probably be your best option, though. In Salzburg, the public bus system is very extensive.
