BMW Factory/Dachau

I have a reservation for a 9:30 BMW Factory Tour and was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to also visit Dachau that afternoon. I am travelling by train in December. Thank you.

Sharon (you again (;0)): I guess that all depends on how long you spend at the BMW factory. You might have to go from the BMW factory by U-Bahn back to Marienplatz and then by S-Bahn out to Dachau, but I think the entire trip is less than an hour. Dachau has several guided tours throughout the day, and they also rent an audio-guide you can use to do the tour by yourself.

I was in Munich in June and went to Dachau the afternoon of the day I arrived. Got there @1PM which was plenty of time to follow the self-guided tour and see the exhibits. It's definitely do-able in an afternoon.

That's quite an odd tour combination. You go from the ultimate driving machine to the ultimate killing machine.

When did you apply for the BMW tour pass? I could NOT get in there 3 months prior to our Munich trip this June.

Purchase a BMW and arrange for European delivery and and a tour is included. Just a thought.

Consider that in December you will have much shorter days. You will mostly likely be loosing the light by 3:30PM. The BMW Tour we took was almost 3 hours long, and you are on your feet the entire time. It was tiring. IMO, leave Dachau for the next morning. You can spend 3-4 hours at Dachau walking through the museum and taking the tour. Simply sit and contemplate what Hitler and the Nazis did to mankind in that place.

Jerry, I booked our reservation in June after reading how difficult it is to get into the tours. I don't know that it would have been as difficult in December as it would be June, but I didn't want to take the chance.

We were at BMW on a Wednesday about two weeks ago, and took a mid morning plant tour, followed by a walk through the museum. I think we were out of there by about 14:00, so I think we would have had time to visit Dachau, but went instead to Schloss Nymphenburg. BTW- We walked up to the BMW information desk at about 10:00 and were told we could get on a waiting list for factory tour, though they seemed doubtful about our chances. We were given (sold) two tour tickets a few minutes later for the 11:30 plant tour. This wasn't the only good luck we experienced on our trip.

"Purchase a BMW and arrange for European delivery and and a tour is included. Just a thought." Another way of looking at this is "Purchase a tour (for $50,000) and a BMW is included."
