Black Forest by Train

My wife and I are considering a visit to Germany this coming fall, using trains and buses for transportation. One area that we are considering is the Black forest. We are looking for towns that can be easily visited by train (hopefully using a KONUS network) that will give us good access to the scenery and some light walks.

This subject comes up occasionally but I lost the "Bookmarks "that I made from previous recommendations.

Thank you.

Hi Gary Mc,
We enjoyed our 3-day stay at the Hotel Rappen in Freiburg (Breisgau) - in the Black Forest area, of course. You could get details on the hotel at www.Google.com. It's in the middle of the Freiburg's old city on Münsterplatz quite near their fantastic cathedral. This old university town is a gem.
A foot excursion we especially enjoyed was a tram ride - switching to a gondola lift - up to the area called Schauinsland (View-the-Country, I guess)which is up high in a beautiful 'black' forest with incredible views of the area.

Also nearby is scenic, medieval Colmar, in France - part of the famous Route du Vins...

I know little about the southern Black Forest. I went through Tittisee years ago and it was a total tourist trap. I only changed trains at Freiburg; it might make a good base for side trips.

I prefer farther north. A great trip is on the Schwarzwaldbahn from Donaueschingen to Hausach. The Black Forest museum is just outside Hausach, but I don't know the public transportation possibilities to get to it. From Hausach, continue up the Kinzig river to Alpirsbach; it's worth a stop. Then go on to Freudenstadt, with it's huge town square. From there you can go down the Murg to Baden-Baden or continue to Nagold, Calw, and Bad Liebenzell. If you stay in one of those towns, your kur card will probably get you free use of the buses to neighboring towns like Bad Wildbad and Bad Herrenalb.

Thank you both. I have bookmarked this page and have channeled my internet search.
