Hello. My friend have planned to spend four days in Tuscany (May 14-17). We will arrive in Florence but would also like to spend some time in a smaller town in The Hills of Tuscany. Ideally, we'd love to rent a bike and check out a couple wineries via bicycle. It looks as though the vineyards aren't too far apart, so that would be feasible. Perhaps Greve in Chianti would be a good central location from which to bike? Because we are trying to be economical, we plan to do a self-tour on the bike. Does anyone have any recommendations for bike rental places or an itinerary for biking to specific vineyards? Thanks!
If you are going to self tour get a map from:

They have produced a map in English for Tuscany that is the absolute best and contains information regarding lodging, sights, and things to do. I use their map for the Danube cycling path and would never think of using anything else.
There's a company in Florence (www.florencebybike.it)that does a one day bike tour (in English, including bikes), with lunch at a villa in the hills overlooking Tuscany. It wasn't cheap - though acceptable, but even though we were starting a bike tour the next day, we still really enjoyed the day trip. They also rent bikes. They aren't too far from the train station (maybe 1/2 mile or so). The towns of Tuscany are called "hill towns" for a reason - challenging biking, but beautiful.
