I hear that there is some great biking in the Belgium countryside. We will be driving from Berlin to Brussels in July (without bikes) and would love to stop somewhere for a day or so to go biking. Obviously, we would need to rent bikes. Any suggestions? Thanks Rick
This is past Brussels, but renting bikes in Bruges and riding around the town as well as into the countryside to Damme is fun. You can continue past Damme to Oosterkerke if you want. Search on "Damme" and you should be able to see some other threads that talk about this. I think you'll love bike riding in Belgium!!
At least in the Flemish areas of Belgium, there are hundreds of bicycling circuits marked throughout the countryside (might be the same thing in the Walloon half of the country, but I've never specifically looked.) I can't find a site in English, but try Googling "Vlaanderen Fietsroutes" or "Flemish Bicycle Routes". For routes around Brussels, look under "Vlaams Brabant".
A small city northeast of Brussels is Lier. Fietspunt Lier rents bicycles: http://www.fietsenwerk.be/nl/lier-87.htm?region= Cycling ideas near Lier: Boomgaardroute, Diamantoute http://www.fietsroute.org/Pdf/Diamantroute.pdf An overview of the towpaths around Lier:
