Has anyone gone biking along the Seine on Sundays when some streets
are closed? Where is the best place for a family to rent bikes? Which roads
are closed? Do they rent helmets? (we are big on safety!)

We did that. It was very fun. We rented the bikes from Mike's Bikes which I think is now called Fat Tire Bikes (it's in RS book). They're located near the Eiffel Tower. We rode along the south side of the Seine towards Notre Dame, and when we passed the Musee D'Orsay we crossed over the Seine to the north side and continued east along the Seine. The roads were were on were closed to cars. They'll give you a map. I do think they had helmets, but I can't remember. I recommend it, we really enjoyed it and got some fun photo's and video.
