Biking along the Mosel

My husband and I will be in the Mosel Valley in late September and would like to bike between some of the towns. We want to do this independently and not with a tour. Has anyone got suggestions for bike rentals? Is it possible to rent at bike in, say, Trier and drop it off in Cochem? Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

There may be but I am not aware of any rent a bike in one city and drop in another. Most bike rentals are not part of a franchise or multi store arrangement. There are some river cruises which bike between cities and then sleep on the boat at night. Probably you best but not most convenient is bring your own bikes from home or work out some type of a circle trip. Or bike down river and take the train back.

The river is extremely windy - sticking to it means traveling a distance of around 140 km:

The bike companies tend to be small, private outfits - I don't know of a place you can rent with drop off in another town.

The photo you see here is one of my favorite spots for biking between towns. I started in Bullay - a couple of train stops away from Cochem - and traveled upriver through Zell and on to Pünderich and eventually Reil. The hilltop nearly dead center in the photo on the above page is called the Marienburg and has a nice outdoor cafe you can hike to - and further up, a lookout tower you can climb for a view. Nice detour.

The bike path is easy along the river and paved separately from the main road, for the most part. It's great for sightseeing as you go.

If you'd like to try this area, you can pick up a bike there in Bullay at the station or in Alf across the river at the Nicolay bike shop.

A great idea for such a lovely area. We drove as to get from sight to sight takes alot of time. Burg Eltz to Cocohem to Beilstein. ck your distances to make sure you really want to do this.just along the river wouldbe wonderful though.
