I'm a fairly avid cyclist and will be in Germany the 1st week of November. Before considering bringing cycling gear for the weather. Does anyone know what kind of bike one could expect to rent in smaller towns along the Main, Rhine, Mozel? Road bike, ATM, hybrid? Drop bars? T bars? Toe clips? Thanks

The majority of bikes that we have seen and rented have been what I would call urban/commuter cruises. Very durable and functional. Flat bars or slight upright,medium size tires, more up right position - seat level with handlebars - multi-gear in the range of 10 to 15. Have seen three speed hubs with a five or six gear clusters. Platform pedals, rear racks, and built in rear wheel clamp style lock. You may be able to rent higher end, racing style bikes, but what we saw were bikes that are very similar to what the majority of the locals road.
