After completing a triathalon, a friend will be flying back to Chicago from Charles de Gaulle airport. Her bike will be in a big, but narrow, box (the bike will be disassembled inside). She hasn't yet decided where she will stay the night before the flight. Would it be possible to get through any of the train stations in Paris (are any better than others) and onto the RER to get to the airport? Or are the turnstiles such that a large box will not fit?
Ashley, since no one else stepped up, I'll give it a try. Tell your friend to ship the bike home via UPS or Fed Ex, etc, directly after the event. The event staff should have this procedure set up, since no one ever wants to drag a boxed bike into a train or airport.
Should the mailing option not be appealing - when going through the turnstiles - stop at the ticket booth and ask them to open the wheelchair/baby stroller door. There are also usually a call button there as well (yellow placard with a red button).
How did she manage it on her way from Chicago to Europe?
Thank you all for your help. She is flying from Chicago to Amsterdam (the location of the race) and then will be traveling in France. As far as I know, she has the first leg of the trip and storage in Paris figured out. It sounds like she should be able to get through the turnstiles if she decides to stay in the city. Thank you again!
