best way to travel for time and money to munich/salzburg

We usually fly US Air in an attempt to get points. I want to take a trip to Munich to do some of Romantic Road, the beer houses and interested in feedback on Festival on the Rhine in May. Then we want to spend 3 days in Salzburg. We will be coming from New Orleans. I want to end up in Munich. What is the best way to travel this? Any info on Festival of the Flames on the Rhine in May? HOw to see land or boat

Lori This is essentially a duplicate of your prior question, where you have already had information about the Festival. When you say "best way to travel this" do you mean the Rhine to Salzburg via the RR (the response to your other question also addressed the RR) and back to Munich? Are you choosing between car, train and bus?
