best way to take this itinerary

Hi, We are trying to figure out the best way to travel for the following itinerary, was wondering if anyone has done something similar to it. We are coming from germany, down to venice(dont know yet which will be the best fare for that portion,as we will be using a german railpass) but we want to go to venice, down to cinque terre, pisa, florence, siena, then rome, as we will be flying out from rome. If someone can recommend a good train connection as will be going point to point. We dont know if we should go down to florence and then up, but this might be waisted time and money.

It may be better to fly to Venice. There are a lot of cheap airfares within Europe. I would check these options out before committing to a long train ride. Also, you need to consider how much time you have to complete this trip. From the sounds of it, you will need at least two weeks for the places you list and you will be in a hurry the whole time to do it. If you can provide more info, we can give you better advice. It may be better to reverse your trip orderusing a German rail pass to Italy then fly out of Venice.

You do not state where you will be in Germany. From Munich to Venice is from 5.5 to 6.5 hours. If the German rail pass is like others, it will cover to the border and you will pay extra from the German border to Venice. I suspect that this will be less than flying. From Venice to La Spezia (near Cinque Terre) the quickest trip is through Florence. It takes about 5 hours, with the majority being from Venice to Florence and then short trips to Pisa and La Spezia. I would probably train to Venice, then to La Spezia. I would check into an open ticket La Spezia to Florence that would allow you to detrain in Pisa for a quick look if that is the reason for the Pisa stop.
