My wife and I are spending a week one street over from Rue Cler in Paris, and have a TGV train to catch at the Gare de Lyon station to get to Avignon. We want to get to the station around noon, on Wednesday, May 25th. We each have a suitcase (with wheels) so we don't want to walk any great distances. Anybody have suggestions regarding mode of transportation and route? Thanks,
Ken
Take metro line 8 from Ecole Militaire or La Tour Maubourg (whichever is closer to your hotel) to Madeleine. Switch to metro line 14 to Gare de Lyon. Should take about half an hour. As with most metro trips involving transfers, you will have some walking to do - but not great distances. Of course the only way to avoid walking would be to take a taxi.
Are you trying to avoid walking altogether, ore are you more concerned about having to go up/down stairs? While line 14 has elevators and a zero-threshold entrance to the trains (meaning you can roll your bag on without having to lift it) you may find that your starting station requires going down stairs to access the train. While I don't consider the walk from line 14 to the Grand Lignes (regular trains) in Gare du Lyon to be long, it does involve some walking and some escalators. Would you be comfortable lugging your suitcases on/off a bus? Because that would limit your walking. If you aren't comfortable at all with stairs, or absolutely must limit your walking, a taxi may be your best option.
Thanks for the comments. We'll check out the metro station accesses during the week before, and then decide the best way to go.
