Our family of four (2 adults, 1 teenager and one preschooler!) flying into Madrid, out of Milan using Mileage, for 2.5 weeks in June. Suggestions for travel between Barcelona and Amalfi Coast appreciated. We are thinking of flying from Barcelona to Napoli, stay in Amalfi area a few days, then high speed train to the North. Skipping Rome (we've got a 4 year old, plus 2 of us have been), heading to Lucca then Cinque Terre. Flight suggestions, Barcelona hotel suggestions, Amalfi area and Lucca hotel suggestions all appreciated! Thank you!
Robin You will have a great time traveling with your kids. It would be good to involve your teenager in the planning. Does your 2.5 weeks include your arrival and departure days? As you know, the first day is a Recovery Day and is a light day. Last day is lost to Return to US. It looks like you have 5 cities you are visting. Here's a suggestion so you can see what your trip will look like! Use an online calendar like WinCalendar(basics for free) and use the Word version as you work on your itinerary. Make changes as needed. Fill in your flights to and from the US. Add the cities on the dates you are thinking of. *Then add the air and train times PLUS the hotel to hotel time. EX: time Madrid hotel to AVE train station, wait at station, travel time to Barcelona, time to hotel. 1/2 day, I bet. I did learn there are Eurostar trains direct from Naples to Florence in 3 hours. Awesome! Also Eurostar trains that stop in Rome. The others take about 6 hrs! Even so, for your trip north, you have to get to Naples from Amalfi and that is no fun and then Florence to Lucca. Basically, all day on trains. For flights from Barcelona to Naples, see if discount website skyscanner.com has any options. Rooms for 4 are always a problem in Europe as you may know. This is high season in Italy and the Amalfi is expensive for accommodations and food. I have been reading that Cinque Terre is pretty booked up for the summer. Probably have to split into 2 doubles. Have a wonderful time with your family. Bobbie
Dear Bobbie Thank you so much for your generous reply - will try your suggestions! Best
