may someone please give me an advice as to what brand or type of walking shoes or boots i need to bring to paris france on our upcoming vacation there this chirstmas season, how's the weather there also? thanks much!
Weather, cold and wet. Bring good shoes, getting a brand name isn't that helpful,as you have to find the brand that fits your foot best , and no shoe company does that well for everyone.
There are dozens of good brands, go into a good walking shoe store and explain exactly what you are doing, Paris, winter, walking, and that you would like a shoe that can look decent enough to go to dinner in( so no snow boots trimmed with fur, LOL) but also needs to have a good sole, waterproof , and stylish, good luck, takes me forever to decide on shoes. LOL
This all depends on whether you are driving anywhere and how much time you end up spending outside. In the past several years, Europe has seen far less snow, especially at lower elevations. For example, on Dec. 20 I had to go 1,400 meters high to see my only whisp of snow in 2006.
If you are going to be driving anywhere then make sure you have a pair of warm boots that will keep you dry. Make sure they're not too heavy, and that you can be comfortable walking all day in them. I HIGHLY suggest buying some high-quality insoles or your feet will be VERY sore in boots all day.
If you're not going to be driving all over the place then I think you'll be fine in a pair of comfortable black Ecco shoes and warm socks. Don't be afraid to wear nylons, a pair of thin cotton socks and then another pair of wool socks. You'll be glad you did.
If it holds to past, It will probably be wet, cold and windy. A few sun breaks.
As always I will swear my Black Dansko clogs (though I realize they are not the right style for everyone). When i lived in Paris (through the Winter) I wore them everyday, and everywhere. I walked about 7 miles a day, went out to eat frequently, and shopped (though more in an artsy/mothers circle than in a swanky club hopping one)
I like my clogs because the height always keeps my feet slightly off the ground and out of puddles and wet grass. They are loose so that they can accomodate thick socks when needed. They go well with skirts, and casual pants.
The only time I wore boots at all ever in France is when i was up in Chamonix
The one thing I remember is that it gets so very cold, almost bitter, and wet, and windy in Paris. The wind comes down through the buildings and it can be misserable. Make sure you have a good solid wool coat that at least goes to your knees, and dress warm underneath
...sorry.
The only time I ever needed/wore boots in France was hiking in the mountains, one winter in Chamonix (playing in snow), and while working on the farm. I wouldn't haul boots. If they should get a freak snowstorm, or you decide you need them, trust me you will be able to find them for sale in paris.
Happy Holidays
When I was in Paris for Christmas/New Years I just wore worn-in runners (PUMA)....very comfortable.
Theres NO snow, its just cold and windy...maybe between 0 and minus 5.
I didn't find it to be wet when I was there...just chilly!
I always take two pairs of shoes. Good waterproof day-hiking shoes for walking, touring etc. and a pair of black Merrell's
(think closed toe, slight heel mules/clogs)for dinner out, driving etc. These shoes are not fashion statements but aren't ugly either. The real ticket is REALLY GOOD INSERTS. Go to a good shoe shop (like REI). My inserts cost about $50 and would be worth it at twice that. Don't fool yourself by thinking you can pick up good inserts off a rack in the drug store. Not for walking in Europe! Happy trails,
for my last trip I bought Merrills. They are just about the most comforable shoes I have ever worn. I also love my puma's . I am not sure how cold it gets in Paris. but maybe Merrills makes a boot also.
Don't know if you have Land's End there but they have a really good walking shoe that is waterproof. Very comfortable and looks nice.
I am a huge fan of Josef Seibel. I have two pairs, one similar to a clog and the other ankle boots. They are comfortable and waterproof. I walked all over Tuscany and Venice in the ankle boots back in March of this year and never had achy feet.
