We will be in Switzertland next week. On Sunday October 7 we would like to travel from our rental in Brienz to top of Jungfrach weather permiting. There will be 6 of us and we have the Swiss Pass. The station we will leave from will be Brienz. Can anyone tell me best way and what stations. We want to go to the top first if weather ok, then do the Kleine Schneidegg hike, See the Ice Castle, Observation Point: Sphinx Terrace possible do the First Flyer Zip Line and heard there was a luge also. Then vister Launterbraten, Trumelbach falls. Any help suggestions appreciated.
Cheryl
Use the Swiss Rail site to check schedules and connections: http://rail.ch Your journey requires three connections Brienz to Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfrau. The ice gallery, observation terrace, zip line, and luge are all located at the top of Jungrau complex. So you would want to do all that before you do the KL Hike, or visit Trumelbach falls, but you probably won't hake time to do both.
I am afraid you at trying too much in one day. The Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg hike is best done going toward KS, so you would want to do that first. Head to Wengen, ride the cablecar up ( assuming it is still operating, I didn't check that). Then walk to Kleine Scheidegg and board the train to the Jungfraujoch. The Ice Palace is there, and there is sledding outside on platters ( mainly for kids) but no Rodelbahn( summer luge) and no zipline. Those are down in Grindelwald. So after returning to Kleine Scheidegg, take the train down to Grindelwald and walk through town to the First gondola for the First Flyer zipline. The Rodelbahn is at the top of the Pfingstegg chairlift in a different part of town. If you do these you won't have time for Lauterbrunnen and Trummelbach falls, but could do that another day, maybe combining with a visit to Mürren.
There is a zip line and a mini luge run on the glacier at the top of the Jungfrau. It's something new they added for the 100th anniversary. It was in full operation when I visited last May.
I was there in June, but I didn't see the luge. In case it's not there anymore there's another one in Grindelwald.
It's entirely possible they dismantled it. It was a bit of a joke (it just ran on the surface), very expensive, few seemed to be interested.
Hi Just came back from the Jungfrach and no sign of a luge. Agree with other posts that this might be a packed day. We were able to use of our Flex Day Swiss Pass as a non travel day to get 50% off the Jungfrach Centennial Pass. For 70.00 CHF we had a pass that was good for one trip up the Jungfrach and three days of unlimited travel on the various trains in the area. This was a great deal and we used it several times to explore the region.
Happy Travels!
Cheryl asked specifically about the First Flyer zipline, so that is the one I described. I could find no mention of a luge on the Jungfraujoch " Top of Europe" site so maybe it was temporary for the centennial celebration.
Thank you so much for your responses. So we will return for Lauterbrunnen and Trummelbach falls. That is not a problem. When we return are there other things in that area that we should plan to do to make a full day. We are trying to explore as much as possible. Also do you think as long as the weather forcast looks good that we are ok with planning the Jungrau with the hike first. Where do we get off the cable car to begin hike? Is it Mannlichen? Thanks so much.
You're welcome. To do the hike to Kleine Scheidegg, get off the train at Wengen, walk through the village to the cable car station and up to Mannlichen. At the top simply follow the crowds and the trail signs to KS, it's very straight forward. While it's optimal to go the top of the Jungfrau with good visibility, it's not a 100% waste in poor weather. There are still things to do up their any conditions, like the ice gallery, and the glacier activities. Also don't forget the other top attraction in the area, Piz Gloria at the Schilthorn Peak: http://www.schilthorn.ch/en/schilthorn/ The cable car station at the bottom of the valley that takes you to the top is very close to Trummelbach Falls.
I checked the schedules. Both the Mannlichen cable car and the Grindelwald-First gondola will run through Oct. 21 so you're good.
