Hi, We're travelling to Europe with a student group and have several free weekends from mid-October through the end of November. My wife and I want to visit Interlaken but are unsure what's the best time. Is there a period when things are shut down? Is there a date after which we won't be able to hike or bike anymore? Thanks! Pat
Hi Pat,
Not sure about Interlaken, but if you're talking about the Berner Oberland (Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Wengen, Jungfraujoch trip, etc.), I'd suggest the earliest weekend that you have in October. We stayed 4 nights in Wengen in mid October and loved it. It was "quiet", but enough was open and we also took the Jungfraujoch trip. I'd think by the beginning of Nov. the area will be "dead", so to speak. Again, I'm not talking about Interlaken itself. Paul
Most businesses stay open year round in Interlaken, it's the mountain towns at higher elevations that go into hibernation. Hiking season in the Alps usually ends in early to mid October, depending on the weather.
