Best time in summer to go to Paris

I am thinking of going to Paris this summer and wonder if anyone has advice about the best time to go. I can only go in July/Aug and would like to go as the least busy time (if possible). I have no flexibility about the months but can go any time during these two months.

Thanks
Wendy

Hi Wendy,

It will be busy no matter what time during those two months that you go.

Wendy I love going in summer, and go almost every year in either July or August. This year I went in late May into June,, and I did NOT find it less crowded ,, so really there is not that much wrong with July August,, as long as you get a hotel with AC,, my one must.
I also find, if you book hotel early, by say , March April,, that many hotels have price breaks from mid July thru August. I paid more for my stay this year then I wanted too,, and I had originally thought I was going in July, so had already a cheaper rate booked( but had to cancel)

My other tip is,, allow enough time,, yes, there will be some crowds and lines, but really why stress about it.. the ones that seem to are the ones with "three days to see Paris" and long wish lists. Take as much time as you can, so you can just relax and go with the flow.

But don't let the fact that it will be busy deter you from going. If budget is a factor, you might find better deals on hotels in August. Although some smaller, family run businesses may be closed then, it should not be a problem for sightseeing.

It will be very hot in August but most locals have left town. Be sure to request air cond in your room.
A few yrs back it was 120 degress F. when we were there.

According to the weather bureau records, July is the warmest month. Hottest temperature on record is just over 104 degrees, back in July of 1948.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of restaurants and small shops close in August for vacation.

Wendy, As others have pointed out, Paris in July-August is not only warm but can get hot, stifling hot. If you're in need of AC because of this, better plan on staying at 3 star hotels. They will have this feature, whereas at a 2 star the AC might be available but you have to pay extra for that room. I stay at a 2 star because I don't need the AC. Expect the Metro to be crowded, sometimes packed, I know...I always go there in July-August. Anyway, you get used to the crowds, just take common sense precautions and be alert. At the beginning of August you might find hotels with reduced rates compared to what they charged a month or two earlier.
