Looking for the best Sound of Music tour in salzburg. Any suggestions?
I enjoyed Bob's Tour. They usually use smaller tour buses, and did when I went. The tour included a brief mention of the some of the sites around the town and a stop across the lake from the house used for some of the outside scenes. Then we went out to a smaller town to see the wedding church. There a was a snack stop at a restaurant overlooking a lake. The view was beautiful and can be scene in the beginning of the movie. There was also an option for a luge/slide ride, but our whole group opted to skip it. It was a great way to see some beautiful scenery outside of Salzburg. If you are only interested in the SOM sites from the movie, most of them are in the city and you can easily walk to them. That being said, I really enjoyed the tour.
We also did Bob's tour in June 2011 and thought it was excellent. The tour guide recommended a local beer garden that we went to for dinner. It was a very nice local experience.
Third vote for Bob's tour. They were great! They have 2 times daily and we did the afternoon one. If doing it again I'd do the morning one since you need to get there a bit before the tour so you have to be careful of time in the morning, and by the time you get back from the afternoon tour most other attractions in town are closed for the day.
Another for Bob's Special Tours...we were fortunate that some spots opened up for the morning tour when we were in Salzburg. The van picked us up not far from our hotel near the old town square. We got to see the sights listed above, but we chose to do the luge run, which as Rick's DVDs show is a lot of fun! My favorite part was simply touring the lake districts, some of the most picturesque landscapes you'll ever see. The restaurant we stopped at for lunch had a gorgeous view as well.
We did the Panorama tour and thought it was fine.
