What is the best route to drive from Appenzell, Switzerland to Hohenschwangau? Yahoo Maps shows going through Memmingen, but that looks so out of the way. We'll be driving with 2 kids (4 and 9 years old), so we'd like to be scenic, but as short as possible at the same time.

Oh, and from Hohenschwangau we will be driving to Bellinzona, Switzerland. Are we going to have to back-track and drive the same route back the way we came from Appenzell?
Hmm, you're right, that doesn't make any sense going through Memmingen. There are no highways that go near Hohenschwangau, so you have to take all secondary roads. Past Lindau on the Bodensee, you can take the 308 past Lindenberg im Allgau, Oberstaufen, then switch to the 309 at Immenstadt. To get to Bellinzona afterwards, you could take the same route or alternatively, you could go south through Austria on the 198, the make your way west by way of Liechtenstein.
