Best route from Venice to Beziers

I'm planning a family trip next summer and need to get from Venice to Beziers. I can go straight through in one day or stop for one night... I'd love some suggestions...

If you're net yet familiar with this resource, try mapping out your route with www.viamichelin.com. Breaking your trip around the France-Italy border (Menton/Ventimiglia) might do the trick...

Thanks for the tip; I'll check it out. Have you been to Ventimilgia?

I went as a day trip 3 summers ago from Antibes, had lunch and went swimmming at a rocky beach ( COLD water even in July!). It's attractive enough, not much to write home about, so a good stop on the road. Bought a great purse there.

That about sums it up... If you're stopping to spend the night on a Thursday, Friday morning has a great market in Ventimiglia.
In Menton, the Best Western Prince de Galles, albeit a bit pricey, is quite nice and is directly in front of the ocean (across the road). If you're a family with more than two, Maeva Les Citronniers has decent apts.

When we were buying tickets in Rome to get from Venice to Nice, the ticket agent said it could not be done without a night layover. I then pulled out my hypothetical route & it all worked great, until we got in France (a short strike left a few hour delay in Ventigmilia.)
Bezier was a suprisingly great destination. Many french refer to Bezier as a ghetto, but the history & canal (in the non- tourist season) is captivating. Have fun!

There's also a cute little hotel, that has recently been completely refurbished and offers great value, just 2 min. from the train station in Menton, called Hotel Lemon:
