We're looking for some recommendations for a great place to stay in the Avignon-Aries-Aix triangle in late June. We have just 4 days and are looking for a comfortable home base. We had been leaning toward Arles but some posts on Travelers Helpline has us rethinking that. Please let us know a village/town to experience Provence, keeping in mind our 3-year-old son will be with us. Also, can you recommend a family-friendly hotel/B&B/cottage? Thanks so much! -Margaret and Doug
I like St. Remy. It's small and easy to park in. The older part of the town is pedestrian-only. From there, you can get around the part of Provence you're interested in quite easily.
Second for St Remy... its a beautiful town and I would think it would be fine with a 3 year old. Lots of wonderful places to walk, a great market, and the drive into the town is exactly what you think of as a french village. Don't have a hotel to recommend...where I stayed was not really kid friendly, but there are lots of places and hopefully someone here has one.
I imagine you must have your Rick Steves' Provence guide book as you plan your journey. If you look through the chapter on accommodation in Arles, and the other areas, there are lots of recommendations. When you pick one or two you might ask if any of us have experience there and you could check TripAdvisor. Happy planning....
Doug and Terry kathryn, thank you both for your suggestion of St. Remy. We're going to look into a place there. Nigel, I have to get RS's book specifically on Florence; we have RS France and it doesn't have much on places outside of Arles and Avignon. Thank you for alerting me to the more specific book. We would still love to hear from a family with small children about the great place they stayed. Thanks again!
