Best of Salzburg

We did the Salzburg card - I think we had 2 days - did the Zoo, Hohensalzburg Fortress, Hellbrun Palace (nice - but it was near the zoo, otherwise, prob would have skipped), museum of natural history, residence museum...I would have loved to do the Cable Car and the river cruise, but we didn't have time...but I think we got our value out of it.

(Should say we did NO sound of music(is that Salzburg or Vienna? - can't rem!)/Mozart things)...there was a market as well with handmade goods in the center of town - not sure if that is a year round thing...and we did go see things with the card that we may have skipped because of price...

Only you can decide if the Salzburg Card is a good value for you. Look at the admission prices of the things you would want to see, then consider realistically how many of them you could do in 48 hours. If the card makes it cheaper, take it. Usually, cards list a lot of things that are either free already or you couldn't possibly get to in the allotted time. You might find that the admission to the 3 or 4 or 5 things you want to do would be cheaper.

We have done a sound of music tour, and absolutely loved it. On another visit we rented a car and drove ourselves around the Salzkammergut and really enjoyed that. I would say definitely visit the Fortress, the Augustiner, wander the old town, and try to make it to a concert of some sort. One of my favorite memories of Salzburg is a violin concert we went to at Mirabell Palace. We also really enjoyed bike riding out to Hellbrunn palace.
