Best of Aix cafes & restaurants

Hi. I will be in Aix for a month at a language learning program starting on late September. I am seeking recommendations for places to eat, have coffee or a drink. Thanks.

June, Four of us were in Aix for 3 nights at the end of May and discovered a recently opened restaurant, "L'Alcazar" which was excellent, actually outstanding. It's at 24 rue des Tanneurs and the phone number is 04.42.63.70.06. They're open 7/7 from 12h to 14h30 and 18h to 23h30.

Thanks Darcy. If there are any other tips you would like to share about Aix, please post them. Since I am there for a month, I expect I will do a lot of wandering around the town, with camera in hand, exploring many side streets. I am especially fond of open air markets, so I look forward to fresh fruit and veg in the markets, and olives, and cheese and.........!!!

The city of Aix has done a fabulous job with tours available at two Cezanne homes/studios. Try not to miss going to the family home just outside of town (Jas du Boufan), where you see a beautiful videopresentation of how he actually developed his early style directly on the walls in the living room, as well as a walking tour around the property, where you see side-by-sides of familiar paintings and the actual scene painted. The other, better-known visit is to his final studio up a big hill on the edge of town, where you see all the still life props he used in so many familiar paintings and they explain his process, including how he painted the large canvasses in his Bathers series by using an ingeniuos slot he had constructed through the wall to the outside. From there, you walk up the steep hill to see the spot he used to paint all the views of Mt. St. Victoire.
