Best location

We are planning a trip to Normandy next year to take part in the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion. We need a recommendation for a central location which would allow us to enjoy the key celebrations. Any suggestions? Larry

Are you asking about a hotel, or where to go to take part in the events? I'm not sure which... If it's a hotel, we love Hotel d'Argouges in Bayeux, a charming town which makes a good base.

Hi Larry, You might check out the Hotel Churchill in Bayeux,my wife and I stayed there in May and it is very close to the Tapistry Museum, there is also a WWII Museum in Bayeux and the Battle Field tours start 500 feet from the Churchill.

Hi Mike,
We're just looking for suggestions for a location to call home base. No idea where the most ceremonies/celebrations will be taking place so hoping to find a central location. Don't want to be one beach and end up missing everything because we're at the wrong location. I can imagine traffic and crowds will be an issue as well. Thanks. Larry

As previously noted, the best location is Bayeux. Ceremonies will likely take place at the D-Day Beaches: cemeteries/ memorials. There are several tours available from Bayeux if you don't have a car. Hotel Churchill is a good choice or the newly built Villa Lara (expensive). Caen is another nearby location you may want to check out. Book a hotel as soon as you can because they fill up fast for the first week in June.

Caen is an easy commute by train or taxi to Bayeux and the coast. Since it is a city it may have more accommodation choices at what could be a busy time. Its Peace memorial museum gets good recommendations and runs guided tours to the beaches.

Bayeux is a charming town, Caen is a not charming city. We thought the WWII museum in Bayeux was the best, did not like the Caen museum. We found it super crowded, confusing and very expensive. I highly recommend staying in the charming town of Bayeux.

Hi I attended the 69th anniversary and stayed at la Glycine, in Benouville. It is about 2 miles from Pegasus Bridge. Also, also the street is another Hotel Manor d'Hastings. We had dinner there.....very very nice. I would recommend either hotel. I am attending the 70th anniversary with my father who was a paratrooper at D'Day....we are staying at Chateau Geurnon Ranville, which was turned into a medical station in June 1944 - - - my dad worked as a medic (age 19) Pat
