Best hotel in Colmar?

Can you recommend a hotel with character in Colmar? Seems that top- rated hotels are not the charming ones; most of the ones with character have lower ratings for being dated.

Nancy, I'm not sure if it's the "best" Hotel, as that's somewhat a matter of opinion. However, one that I would highly recommend is Hotel Le Rapp. I found the rooms very comfortable, it's in a great location and the staff were wonderful. Happy travels!

Define character? Do you want an old historic building and traditional furnishings? Do you want to be right in the center of the old town? Are you willing to deal with very small rooms and potentially less comfortable beds and dated furnishings in exchange? And what is your price range?

Define character -- hotel with interior, especially rooms, that couldn't be transported to another country/ region because it's been updated in such a neutral way. I mean a room decorated with style. By "best" hotel ( my query) I mean one with a nice bathroom, clean carpet, excellent bed, great breakfast.

In October, 2002 we thoroughly enjoyed Hostellerie le Maréchal and the dinner over-looking la petite Venise was superb. The hotel definitely has charm, extremely comfortable and clean and the staff professional.
