I will be in Germany for business and want to stay 2 nights to explore the area around Stuttgart. Looking on the map Karlsruhe, Stuttgart & Manheim/Heidelberg form a triangle. Any suggestions on a hotel or town to stay in.

We stayed in Stuttgart last December and enjoyed it. We stayed at the City Hotel, which is walking distance from the city center, the museum district, many eateries and the two palaces. We walked to the City Hotel from the train station; the area is also supported by Ubahn lines.

If you are going to explore Stuttgart, stay near Stuttgart. A few years ago, we had a morning flight out of STR. We stayed in Herrenberg (www.herrenberg.de) at Pension Kirchgasse 1 (www.pension-kirchgasse1.de). It's at the end of an S-Bahn line into town and a rail line to Tübingen. Amongst other places to see near Stuttgart are Tübingen, Hechingen (Burg Hohenzollern, www.burg-hohenzollern.com) and Freudenstadt.
