My friend and I will be in Paris for 1 1/2 days and we would like to have some good crepes. (We will be there Aug 26-27.) Anyone know of a really good place to get crepes? We want an authentic experience, not some super expensive tourist trap. Thank you! :)
I suppose you could find really good crepes in a cafe or restaurant, but they are really street food and are everywhere.
Stacy - as stated above - crepes are Parisian street food. Crepe carts are all over - particularly in the Latin Quarter. As for favorites - my favorite crepe in Paris is the one I am eating! Have fun
Check out this website- I have eaten at the restaurant in the Marais, Breizhcafe. Delish! http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2006/03/the-best-crpes/
John Tallbot's Food blog might be worth a gander.

A friend who lives in Paris recommends Creperie Beaubourg near the Pompidou.
I love crepes, and maybe just chose the wrong street vendor, but found out it is possible to get terrible crepes in Paris. On the positive side, we had great luck at La Jacobine. Not too touristy, not expensive. Here's the address: 59 Rue Saint-André des Arts 75006 Paris, France 01 46 34 15 95 Subway: Odéon website is lajacobine.com
It's a little tricky to find - it's down an small alley. Have fun!
The best one to me was the one I was eating (nutella, banana) warm in front of the Eiffel Tower at 10pm as it twinkled in the chilly night air!!! mmmm . . . still brings back sweet memories . . . it prompted me to order my own crepe making grille ~ we relive that night in Paris whenever we make them (but we also add fresh strawberry slices to the nutella and banana ~ our fave!)
Thank you all very much for your help and input. :)
Stacy I always get my crepes from street vendors,, but, I always stand and watch them for a few minutes before I order mine. I make sure they fresh pour each crepe,, I have seen a few that have premade the crepes and just heat and serve, usually in the busy areas. Nothing better then a fresh crepe stuffed with cheese, ham and tomato,, heavenly. For dessert crepes I still favour the simple lemon and sugar ones,, nutella is too heavy for me , and since we can get nutella anywhere here its not like a special treat to me.
Stacy, On a slightly related note, have you ever been to one of the The Crepe Company's cart's? I've seen them at the Sunday Market at Lake Eola and tried them when they came over to a community event in Avalon Park. It was the first time I've had a freshly made crepe, my wife and I had tried their savory summer crepe, which was delicious. Check them out sometime: http://www.thecrepecompany.com/. Publix also carries packages of premade crepes in their produce section. I'm looking forward to trying some actual French crepes in two weeks, when my wife and I will be in Paris. I agree with Pat. I approach a street stand and watch them for a minute before ordering. If they have a stack of premade reheat and serve crepes stacked up I turn and walk away. I would like to be able to give you a specific name, but we found our favorite just walking around the Latin quarter using trial and error. ;) The best was literally just a window with a counter that opened onto the street. There was a bit of a line as they were making them fresh, but it was worth it! Tried different combos and "specialties". Ham and cheese are my fav, Nutella and banana just too sweet and heavy.
Side note: Not something specific to Paris, but we LOVED the gyros we bought one day walking around the Latin quarter. Best we've had anywhere. Mmmmm!
Brent – Thanks. I did not know they had one around Lake Eola. That is such a nice area. I hope you and your wife enjoy Paris! I mean how could one not? :) Mark – Yes, I too enjoy a good gyro!
Thanks for the tips all! :)
This is an excellent question. The answer (at least for me)
Aux Meilleures Crepes de Paris on the Grands Boulevards (Boulevard de Montmartre, right down the street a block from the Grevin museum). It says so in their title. You may think "Bull!" But they really do have the best crepes that I've tasted in Paris. On 2 different occasions I've taken a few of my friends there, they of course, scoffed at the title. After they indulged in these crepes they were speechless. There is a stand outside to purchase them and there's a sit down area inside (with other food items as well). My fave is the banana-coconut-nutella crepe. Just thinking about it right now makes me want to cry.
As others have mentioned, there are many good street stands for crepes ... just make to sure to watch that they make them fresh, instead of pulling one from a stack of pre-made ones. If you want to go to a restaurant for a crepe meal (instead of street snack), I like Le Cap Breton: http://www.lecapbreton.com/. They have an outlet between Opera and Montmartre. Bon voyage and bon appetit.
