Best (cheapest) place to fly to for trip Zurich>Milan

I'm planning my honeymoon in Switzerland and Northern Italy. Main cities we will be visiting are Zurich, Milan, Florence. I was not planning on Rome but if it's a significant price difference in flights I would consider it. Flying from Chicago, is there a city that would have cheaper flights to and from the states, but possibly are close to what I mentioned via train?

Hi Patrick,
You can monitor airfares on Kayak.com (look at the "Buzz" option to set fare alerts.) Milan will probably be the least expensive city to fly into of the ones that you mentioned. Cities in Germany (Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, etc.) probably have some of the least expensive fares to Europe. If you find a good one you could look at flying into a German city and taking a train or budget airline to your other destination(s).

Also depends on when you're going--there are some great fares for April and May--summer will be more expensive.

I agree with Michael's comment about Zurich as a honeymoon destination. In addition to Luzern--Interlaken would be another good option.
Congratulations and Best wishes!

Zurich isn't what I would consider a honeymoon destination:) Instead consider heading to the Berner Oberland in the Swiss Alps. If you must stay in a Swiss city, Luzern would be a better choice. Rome's airport is way out of the way for the cities you listed. Zurich and Milan have large international airports with lots of direct flights from the US.

Thanks! Yeah I was not planning on staying in Zurich for more than a day before heading into the Alps. Basically the plan is a jaunt down through the Alps via train and a couple stops on our way down to Lago di Como. On to Milan and Florence. All of which I would rearrange if flights to Zurich were more expensive than say Milan or Rome.

Zurich, generally is cheaper than Milan. Ck into Geneva as United is starting flights to Gva in Spring, perhaps a prom fare. Consider staying in Lindau a short direct train from Zurich Airport as a honeymoon spot for jet lag recoup. Right on the lake it is lovely. Rs doesn't write of it in his germany gbk but it is very lovely, scenic, historic ...
