Best breakfast in Bacharach?

My girlfriend and I will be arriving in Bacharach at around 8:30am via the night train from Berlin. We have 2 hours in Bacharach before getting on the KD river cruise downstream to St. Goar and Koblenz. During our two hours in Bacharach, is there a good place to get some breakfast? How can we make the most of those two hours before the cruise?

I assume the night train ends in Köln and then you take an IC to Koblenz and a regional MRB to Bacharach. You might be well advised to stopover in the Koblenz Hbf and get breakfast at one of the food stands there and catch an hour later MRB to Bacharach. I don't think you will find a lot of places serving breakfast in Bacharach. People who stay there overnight undoubtedly have breakfast included with their room and will eat where they slept, but those places are not really open to the public. The Bacharach website (www.bacharach.de) does show two "cafes" opening early, one at 6:30, one at 8:00. Both are on Oberstrasse. One is a "Stehcafe" (stand cafe). It is probably a bakery with some high table, no chairs, where you can eat the pastries that they sell, standing up.

Breakfast is usually eaten in a bakery/cafe and very simple. Breakfast buffets are common in hotels these days, however. As Lee says, they're for hotel guests. But why not contact an unsuspecting Bacharach hotel or two and ask if you can book a breakfast only? They can only turn you down. The Hotel zur Post gets good marks and serves a buffet breakfast and isn't too far from the station. Koblenz' station food offerings are sparse. There's a McDonald's and a Yorma's take out - maybe another bakery. But no Denny's. A market gap for sure. Assuming your train stops in Cologne, which has a vast array of eateries, you might have better luck finding breakfast food there - then catch a train one hour later than planned. But there it will be a larger variety of bakeries and coffee houses (Starbucks, Coffee Fellows) and fast food places, no breakfast diner that I've ever seen.
