Best B&B or independent hotel websites

We'll be driving through rural France the latter half of April, and would like to have some sources to turn to for small hotels or B&Bs as we know which town we'll be in.

I've seen websites recommended here, but am having trouble finding them with my searches. I've tried Logis de France. Are there others that people have had success with?

Thanks --

I'm agreeing with Lee here. I've had great luck with searching on local tourism websites. Some are better than others, though, but most have accommodations on there.

I'm not familiar with France, but I am with Germany, and in Germany, booking websites, like booking.com, are worthless. They do list most properties in larger towns, but, contrary to what they claim, their prices are not much less, and usually more, than what you can find on the hotels own website. For small towns they're like RailEurope, they don't list all of the properties, only the most expensive ones. You might try finding the town's own websites, www.[townname].fr. Unfortunately, these websites are often only in French.

Other than logis (or gitesdefrance for longer stays) I'm siding with Lee. Bookings, etc, are horrible; the RS books skip a lot of the country and don't have too many, anyway. Venere.com will pick up small places if you fiddle with it.
Karen Brown's stuff is mostly over the top for my budget.

Lauren......We use RS, Karen Brown (books and website) and Tripadvisor.com. We've also had some success with Fodors.

Great advice Martine. I have used this approach to booking B & B's with great success on my two trips to France. If you use Google to search, 99% of the time there is a 'translate' option alongside the link.

We use Karen Brown a lot. She has quite a few listings that are not horribly expensive. Another good source is Special Places To Stay: French B&B's. There's a book and a website. Has anyone mentioned Gites de France?

Hello Lauren,
I dont have much to say in regards to websites themselves, but when you do find websites that are only in French, go to Google Translate, and put in the website address. It will translate the website for you, so you can still read it. Best of luck with your search, and enjoy France!
