We are going to spend two nights in Bordeaux next fall. I have been looking at maps, and the area south of the Jardin Public seems to have the most "sights." Suggestions on the best parts of town to stay would be welcomed. We will be on foot and public transportation until we pick up our car the last day on our way out of town. Thanks.
The tram system in Bordeaux is excellent. Pick a hotel near ANY tram stop and you are sorted.
I would highly recommend Hotel des Voyageurs: http://hoteldesvoyageurs.net/. While it's on the other side of the river from most sights, it's not a far walk over the nearby bridge, and there's a tram stop across the street. It's currently the No. 1 rated hotel in the region on Tripadvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g187079-Bordeaux_Gironde_Aquitaine-Hotels.html). We stayed there in April, and will be staying there again next March.
I really liked the Hotel Tour l'Intendance which was a few blocks from the public garden which was very nice. We walked everywhere we needed to go in Bordeaux.
