I am looking at doing some wine tasting for a break away from museums and sightseeing. I would love any recommendations anyone has. I was considering Beaune. I will be visiting London, Paris, Zurich, Munich, Venice, and Rome. So any suggestions for a day trip or any wineries would be much appreciated!
If you are going to Paris the only wine area that is really close enough to a day trip would be Champagne, around Rheims. If you are really interested in wine my recommendation would be to stop off in Strasbourg or Colmar between Paris and Zurich for a night or two, and explore the Alsace wineries.
From Munich, you could conceivably tour the Francionan wine region. They make some delicious whites. Or you could go from Munich into Austria, they're not as well known for their wines in the U.S. but I loved the wine culture in Vienna (not exactly a day trip from Munich, though). I'd do more research into those two regions to find out where the wineries are and what visiting them is like.
Beaune is a good choice, with many tasting opportunities right in town and more if you rent wheels (car or bicycle). Like David's advice for Alsace (which is more enroute for you), it works best as an overnight, but if you make an early start it could be a day trip from Paris. It's about 2 hours each way by train.
Thanks! We will probably stay overnight wherever we decided to go. I just wanted some options that were en route to our destinations or not too far off.
