Best Airport for in and out for visiting Barcelona, Provence, NW Italy

My credit card mileage plan covers $1000/per ticket if we fly in and out of same city or $600 if we fly open end. Major cities would include: Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Barcelona, Arles/AIX, VilleFranche, but I want to visit some of Italy (again) like Cinque Terre, Lucca maybe some other hill towns in north (did Firenze, Siena,San Gimangano before). We are planning about 3 weeks and have some flexibility. Any help about best approach or ideas.

Fly in and out of Aix and make two driving loops (a figure-eight actually). Barcelona is an easy half-day from Aix, so is La Spezia). Making the trip a circle in mostly southern France with an out-and-back to Italy would make it an all-time good trip.

We were thinking of doing this by train and renting a car while in Arles (2-3 days). Do International flights go in/out of AIX or should we be thinking Marsielle? What about flying into Barcelona, do a loop in Madrid, Toledo, Seville, then fly to Genova and loop around NW Italy and make our way back to AIX/Provence by train, continue back to Barcelona and depart Barcelona. We are talking about 3 weeks and have flexibility. For two people to fly open-jaw we will pay a combined penalty of about $1000 -$1200.
