Best Accomodations in the Swiss Alps

My Fiance and I will be spending our honeymoon from December 17-20th in the Swiss Alps. Where is the best place to stay that is tranquil, awesome views, and reachable to get to the slopes for reasonale prices?

In my opinion, Perry has you in the right area. I would also look at the Hotel Eiger in Murren or the Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen. Murren has the very small Swiss village look as does Grindelwald. Gimmelwald is even smaller and scenic but it may not be near ski areas. I don't think that you will forget a honeymoon in Murren. Murren, Grindelwald and Wengen are high up on the valley sides. Lauterbrunnen is in the lower valley. However, during winter, the Hotel Silberhorn advertises that they are close to many ski lifts and that you can ski right down to the hotel. We were only there in summer so we couldn't confirm that. One caution: Many hotels in the Switzerland alps are closed for "shoulder" season. This is a 60-day period between the end of summer and the winter ski season. I know that the Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen re-opens Dec 15. but you should email you intended hotel to find out if they will be open.

Larry, I believe you are confusing Grindelwald with Gimmelwald. Gimmelwald is the tiny car-free village high above the Lauterbrunnen valley, near Mürren, and much praised by Rick. Grindelwald is a much larger village in the next valley over. While not car-free or particularly tranquil, it has many nice honeymoon-quality hotels, and good access to various ski slopes. However, I would suggest staying up higher, in either Mürren of Wengen. Both villages offer tranquility beautiful views. I haven't skied there, but I believe the Mürren side (Schilthorn) offers more challenging skiing. From Wengen, one can access the Mannlichen slopes above Grindelwald, and also the Wengernalp area.

My apologies, Larry, Obviously you are familiar with the difference. It just sounded confusing because you said "Murren, Grindelwald and Wengen are high up on the valley sides". That statement describes Gimmelwald, not Grindelwald, which lies along the river at the bottom of the next valley over from the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

In any case, Jessica and her husband should have a nice honeymoon in any of the villages---I just hope there is snow that early. If not, it will still be beautiful there.
