Will be in Switzerland for just a fe days this September and looking forward to traveling via train from Tirona, to st. Moritz, to Visp, to Interlaken. I see there are several more trains on that route than the actual Berinina and Glacier Express. Other than the window size is there other differences? Meals, speed, cost etc? To travel by the regular trains do you need tickets other than the Euro Select Pass?
Dean, the Glacier Express is really a slow train that goes from St. Moritz to Zermatt with fewer stops and by not having you change trains up to 4 times as you do on the other local trains on that same route. The passenger cars are very nice. It does cost more than the local trains. There is some type of cart on-board as we did buy the souvenier tilted glasses that point straight up when climbing a steep hill. We did have a glass of wine because we have pictures as we climbed to Oberlap. However, I can't remember eating food. Hmmm.
If you take the local trains on the same route, you will change trains at least 4 times getting to Visp. Also, I believe that there may be a reservation charge if you use your Euro pass.
