Planning to take the Bernina express on our trip from Italy to Switzerland in end of August.
We are based in the US.
Can we buy the tickets online?
I believe reservations are also required. Can that be done online too? Or is it best to buy the tickets in Italy?

we just took the Chur to Lugano Bernina Express in June and fould that we could easily purchase tickets in Switzerland. Many on board didn't even have reservations! August may be a little busier though. We had no problems with our Swiss Passes. Joe

thanks, what about the Tirano/Lugano to Chur leg of the journey? Any comments on reservations on that leg?

Hi, We rode the Bernina Express in 2006 from Lugano to Pontresina. We got our reservations from www.raileurope.com. Everything worked out great. No problems at all. The Bernina Express also has their own web sight www.rhb.ch. You can make reservations direct. I am not sure if you can do the Lugano to Tirano part with them. I have not used the web sight to purchase tickets. This is also a good place to get all the information about the trip, schedules, prices etc.
