Bernese Oberland - 3 days in Jan.

So we've found available rooms for our stay in Switzerland, at both Esthers and Pension Gimmelwald. Any opinions on which one to choose? (the one at Esthers has a private bathroom, but I'm not sure I could realistically shower in only 3 minutes. Ha. :)

Now the next consideration: where do we find info about the gondola, such as prices and times that it runs? I'm assuming our car would be parked at Stechelberg - is the 6 CHF per day correct on that? Will it be easy to get to and from Gimmelwald when we're ready to ski or sightsee during the day in the surrounding areas? I know this specific info is out there somewhere, I just haven't been able to find it yet. Any advice is most appreciated - thanks!

Thanks, Steve - I had actually scoured the main part of that page already, but somehow missed all the gondola/train info on the right side. :)

There is also a service van that shuttles back and forth between Gimmelwald and Murren.

Personally, if skiing is your intent, I would stay in Murren for the convenience. There's not really much sight-seeing to do in the winter that you can't see from the slopes anyway.

LP, it looks like skiing is one of your main desires. I was in the area this past fall. As I am not a skier, I wasn't looking for runs. However, as I recall, I saw many runs on the Wengen side of the valley. I recall seeing some on the Muerren side as well, but you might want to check both sides to see where the skiing is more to your liking. If you decide on the Wengen side, presumably you could cancel your Gimmelwald reservation and stay in Wengen or Lauterbrunnen instead.

Thank you Tom & David for the input! We haven't officially made a reservation yet, as we're still trying to decide where exactly would be the best home-base for our stay in the area. It sounds as if Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken might be our better options.

As a side note, does anyone have personal experience with the James Bond breakfast buffet at Piz Gloria? My husband is an avid Bond fan and we're wondering if it's worth the time and money for the effort of getting on the first lift up there. (If we don't do the buffet, we'd probably still just get a leisurely cup of coffee and enjoy the views, given that the weather's good.) Any thoughts?

Thanks again!
