berner oberland regional pass question

I am a liitle confused

I am looking at the 7 day berner ob, pass that is 3 days of unlimited travel and 4 days of reduction. My question: if I get the pass in Lucerne and use it (it seems travel in Lucerne is 50% discount) will this count as an unlimited travel day or day of reduction. I hope this makes enough sense- I don't want to waste a "prime" day on my pass while in Lucerne. Thanks

How much traveling are you planning in the area covered by the B.O. pass? Have you seen to coverage map? If not, CLICK HERE to see it. Only the lines in red are fully covered. Its not a lot.

I haven't used this particular pass I think the site is suggesting that you buy a 50% separate ticket from Lucerne to a point where your pass will fully cover and then use your pass. It looks confusing to me as well.

You might look into the Swiss Flexi-Pass which would completely cover you from Lucerne to most anyplace in Switzerland on a covered day. Also, if most of your travel is in or around the Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen Valley, you might find that 50% on the local fares is just fine instead of using a fully covered day.

Please don't go for any Eurail pass. It will only get you a 25% discount in the entire Lauterbrunnen Valley.

I should have said that we will have a car when in Switzerland. We will only be in Lucerne 1 day- then in B. Oberland for the better part of three days

I can't comment on the pass you are considering, but we just returned from Switzerland and used the Swiss Rail Pass for a week. We definitely got our moneys worth out of it--covers buses also and half off on certain lifts and gondolas. Bought it through BETS here before the trip.

Why would you need a pass of any type that has unlimited travel if you have a car? Note that if you drive into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, you can park in Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg. But that's it. No tourist cars are permitted in Wengen, Gimmelwald or Murren. You will need public transportation there.
