Hey! I'll be in the Berner Oberland in late May (May 27th-30th). I'm planning to spend one day in Interlaken, one day visiting Schilthorn/hiking that area, and one day (weather permitting) visiting Jungfraujoch/hiking that area. I'm trying to decide if I should spend the last day in the Berner Oberland or if I should go to Lake Lucerne for that last day. Spending the last day in the Berner Oberland raises the odds at at least one day I'll have clear enough weather to visit the Jungfraujoch and then I could catch any hikes I might've missed on previous days (and maybe catch a little relaxing time in one of the towns), but Lake Lucerne looks beautiful and it's less at the mercy of tempermental mountain weather. Any recommendations?
IF.....you are going to substitute, go/stay in Luzern rather then Interlacken.
Hiking's going to be a crap-shoot this year in the Berner Oberland before the summer. Literally. We had a particularly cold and wet start to spring this year, which means the yearly melt-off just began a few weeks ago... which means that the farmers are just now fertilizing the pastures... which they accomplish by shooting liquified manure through a power hose. Normally, the hiking season really doesn't start until June. As noted above, expect a later start this year. If you're lucky, the poop-spraying will be over by the time you visit. Given all that, perhaps spending more time around Lake Luzern and less around the Berner Oberland may be a better plan this year.
