Berner Oberland and Lauterbrunnen

Hi ! I have two days Sked for the Lauterbrunnen area in the first week of October. I will be driving from Milan to Interlaken with a "bit" of apprehension about the roads. After looking at them on Google Earth, WOW! Does anyone have Any suggestions on specific routes/passes/stay away from/weather in October/etc?? Thanks for any help!!!!

Be very careful if snow has started in Susten Pass, or if there is rain on that pass. I can be gorgeous, or treacherous. I've driven it with the road cutting through 12 foot high banks of snow and, while its open, its not much fun.

Nigel, Well, at least I have the Furkapass if Sustenpass is closed. They are so close that probably both would be closed though. Thanks again!

Although it "could" happen, the chances of a pass closing for snow in early October are very low.

I just got off the phone reserving a room with Esther in Gimmelwald, so, I asked the chances of the Sustenpass or Furkapass being closed early October. You are right Tom, not likely. She said the better route would be to Luzern and then down to the Interlaken area, if passes closed, and check internet for closures. I THINK I WILL BUY EXTRA INSURANCE FOR THE RENTAL CAR !

[INVALID] the rental car in Milan and take the train all the way to Gimmelwald. No worries of snow or road closures. No car means you won't have to buy a vignette for your rental car, no more Italian road tolls, no petrol, no insurance, no parking fees...only relaxing and amazing views from your train window.
