We're going back home to the USA tomorrow... out of Tiegel airport. Looks like bus 109 is a good choice from our hotel (Pension Peters, one of Rick Steves' recommendations). Has anyone taken this bus to TXL before? How well does it work to ride it with a couple of bags? And, looks to be about 30 minutes from Ku'damm to TXL?
One our 5 or 6 trips to Berlin we always take the 109 to and from the airport. We have never had a problem with luggage. Depending on the time the bus could be quite empty or quite full but everyone makes room. The 30 min time frame is about right. I am quite jealous that you are in Berlin. One of my favorite cities.

Thank you for the reply. What is the difference between the 109 and the X09 bus? Both seem to have the same route. Does the X09 have less stops?
JH, You want to get from the Pension to Berlin Tegel. I myself would take this route since I stay in the same area in Berlin-Charlottenburg. From Pension Peters on Kantstrasse your nearest S-Bahn station is Savignyplatz, ca. 3-4 mins walk, which you enter from either the Bleibtreustrasse or Savignyplatz side. Three lines stop here, the S-75, S-5, S-7, take any of them going east to Berlin Hauptbahnhof. For S-75 and S-7 the eastern terminus is Ahrensfelde, don't recall S-5 eastern terminus. "Berlin Hauptbahnhof" is announced in German and English apart from the electronic message tape. At Berlin Hbf go out the exit on Invalidenstraße. Several buses stop there. Take the TXL Bus across the street, ie., where all the food vendors and Imbiß stands are, to Tegel. No need to take #109, which may only go to Bahnhof Zoo.
