Does anyone have a recommendation for a door-to-door airport shuttle/ taxi transfer company from Berlin Tegel airport? Or is it best to catch a taxi from the airport taxi rank? I'll be with my mum who's 70, and the express bus doesn't look like the best option for us. Our hotel is in the Ku'damm area.
I know you may have good reason to want an automobile transfer. But if your bags aren't too bulky, the plain Berlin bus route #109 goes between Zoologische Garten and the TXL airport (with stops at a few subway stations...), for the basic transit fare. That is, it's not a special bus with extra fare. We get off at the Starbucks near the Hotel Bristol Kempinski, just off the K'Damm. As I remember, it turns onto K'Damm at the Charlottenburg Palace, and goes straight to the Zoo/Zoo Railroad Station.
Audrey, After a transatlantic flight I just wanted a taxi. ; ) And I took one from the rank. I was going to Prenzlauer Berg area. I don't remember the fare, so it can't have been totally horrible. I do take taxi's from LaGuardia to NYC fairly often and so a $30-40 taxi fare isn't going to shock me. Pam
hi Tim, Pamela, thanks for the info. From what I've managed to find out, taxi fares are probably not that scary. And you're right, after a long flight, I (and mum) might not be in the mood to deal with the public bus!
Pages 626 & 7 of RS Germany 2011 Guide Book has information about getting from the airport into town. Among that information, it states that a taxi should cost about 35E.
